Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to make you aware of a dangerous trend circulating on social media platforms like TikTok that has recently come to our attention. Some students have been inserting foreign objects such as push pins, paper clips, and mechanical pencil tips into the ports of their Chromebooks. This behavior is extremely hazardous and can cause the device to short-circuit, overheat, or even catch fire, posing serious safety risks.
Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students and families. We are actively addressing this issue in our schools and taking appropriate disciplinary action when necessary. Please take a moment to speak with your child about the seriousness of this behavior and if they did do something to their device we want to know. Please remind them that Chromebooks and other school-issued technology must be used responsibly.
If your child notices any concerning behavior or hears of others participating in this trend, we encourage them to speak with a teacher or administrator immediately.
Thank you for your support and partnership in keeping our students safe and focused on learning. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Thank you for your prompt attention,
Julieanne D. Purcell
