What is the Dual Language Program?

Our Dual Language Program is designed to provide English speaking and Spanish Speaking students an exciting, enriching, and challenging educational opportunity for 21st century learning. Students will learn to collaborate, communicate and think critically in all academic content areas in both Spanish and English. By the end of twelfth grade, students will have obtained the bilingual skills and multicultural competencies needed to succeed in our global society and economy.

•Cultivate an understanding and appreciation of other cultures and strengthen positive connections among students, their families, and the greater global community.

NYSED Bilingual Education Units of Study
The Units of Study tables provided are guidelines for mandated services for  ELLs as per Commissioner's Regulations Part 154-2 in both English as a New Language and Bilingual Education programs. As always, ENL instruction is an integral part of the Bilingual Education program.

Program Model

Southampton Elementary School:

In grades K-4, students receive 50% of daily instruction in Spanish and 50% in English. Students receive Spanish instruction in Spanish Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.

Southampton Intermediate School:

In grades 5-8, students are taught in Spanish for a minimum of two periods per day (25% of students' instructional day) throughout their four years of intermediate school. In 5th and 6th grade, students receive Spanish instruction in Spanish Language Arts and Social Studies. In 7th grade, students receive Spanish Language Arts and Spanish 7. In 8th grade, students are taught Spanish Language Arts and Spanish 3H.

Southampton High School:

In grades 9-12, students are taught in Spanish for a minimum of two periods per day (25% of students' instructional day) throughout their four years of high school.
