The Annual Budget Vote and Election will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 10:00 am - 9:00 pm in the Southampton Intermediate School Music Room, 70 Leland Lane, Southampton.

1. To adopt the annual budget of the Southampton Union Free School District for the fiscal year 2023-2024 in the amount of $76,899,000 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.

  1. To elect two (2) members of the Board of Education for four-year terms commencing July 1, 2023, and expiring on June 30, 2027, to succeed Donald J. King and SunHe Sherwood-Dudley, whose terms expire on June 30, 2023.

  2. Shall the Board of Education of the Southampton Union Free School District be authorized to appropriate and expend an amount not to exceed $130,000 for the purchase/replacement of one (1) 66-passenger bus from funds currently on hand in the "Southampton Bus Fleet Replacement Capital Reserve Fund" established by the voters on May 19, 2009. Note: The approval of this proposition will not have an impact on the Tax Levy for 2023-2024.

Shall the Board of Education of the Southampton Union Free School District be authorized to appropriate and expend an amount not to exceed $300,000 for the purchase/replacement of (i) Smart Panels and LCD Panels for instructional spaces district wide, and (ii) workstations from funds currently on hand in "The Capital Reserve Technology Equipment Fund" established by the voters on May 17, 2022. Note: The approval of this proposition will not have an impact on the Tax Levy for 2023-2024.

  1. Shall the Board of Education of the Southampton Union Free School District be authorized, commencing with the 2023-2024 school year, to expend a total of not to exceed $3,901,558 from "The Ten Year Capital Reserve Fund" for alterations, repairs and reconstruction of the school facilities as follows: (1) Phase 2 - renovations to provide "Climate Control" to the 1st floor classrooms and offices at the Southampton Intermediate School; (2) Renovations to provide "Climate Control" to the 1st floor classrooms in the Art and Shop wing at the Southampton High School; (3) Install Saw-Dust Collection System in the Carpentry Classroom at the Southampton High School; (4) Replace current Scoreboard located on Southampton High School Track with New Video Scoreboard. Note: The approval of this proposition will not have an impact on the Tax Levy for 2023-2024.

  1. Shall the Board of Education of the Southampton Union Free School District be authorized to spend up to $3,500,000 from the District's existing capital reserve fund known as the "Southampton Property Acquisition and Facility Construction Capital Reserve Fund" (as established by the vote of the qualified voters of the District on May 19, 2009) for the renovation of the Property located at 300 and 310 Hampton Road, Southampton, New York, and with the result that such expenditure from the "Southampton Property Acquisition and Facility Construction Capital Reserve Fund shall have no impact on the tax levy of the District for the 2023-2024 school year. Note: The approval of this proposition will not have an impact on the Tax Levy for 2023-2024.

Shall the Board of Education of the Southampton Union Free School District be authorized, subject to approval of the Commissioner of Education, to extend its lease for administrative office space with J. Farrell, c/o Farrell Building Company, Inc., located at 425 County Road 39A, Southampton, New York, 11968 for an additional term of February 15, 2024 through June 30, 2025, with an annual lease amount in 2024 of $251,178.00, and a 6-month lease amount in 2025 of $129,356.60? Note: The proposed lease extension shall serve as a reduction of the lease extension previously approved by the voters on May 18, 2021.

A Public Hearing of the qualified voters of the Southampton Union Free School District, Town of Southampton, Suffolk County, New York, will be held in the Southampton Intermediate School Music Room, 70 Leland Lane, Southampton, NY on May 2, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., prevailing time, for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law, including the following items: 

  1. To present to the voters a detailed statement of the amount of money which will be required for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
     
  2. To discuss all the items hereinafter set forth to be voted upon at the Budget Vote and Election to be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
     
  3. To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting pursuant to Education Law of the State of New York and acts amendatory thereto.

Petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the District Clerk at her office at 425 County Road 39A, Southampton, New York, 11968, not later than April 17, 2023, 5:00 p.m., prevailing time. Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District by mail (70 Leland Lane, Southampton, NY 11968), email (clerk@southamptonshools.org) or fax (631-287-2870); must be signed by no less than 25 qualified voters of the district and must state the name and residence of the candidate. Vacancies on the Board of Education are not considered separate, specific offices; candidates run at large. Nominating petitions shall not describe any specific vacancy upon the Board for which the candidate is nominated. Please contact the District Clerk at 631-591-4510 for more information.

Application for an Absentee Ballot:

  • Can be received no earlier than April 17, 2023
  • Can be received no later than May 9, 2023, if the absentee ballot is to be mailed to the voter
  • Can be received no later than May 15, 2023, if the absentee ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter

Absentee Ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than Monday, May 15, 2023, if delivered personally OR no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, if delivered by mail. All ballots must be returned in the provided envelope with the attestation on the envelope signed by the qualified voter.

The Board of Registration will meet for the purpose of registering qualified voters of the District on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the District Office, 425 County Road 39A, Southampton, NY. Qualified voters can also use the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Electronic Voter Registration Application to register to vote or to update the information they have on file with the New York State Board of Elections. Information regarding that can be located at: New York DMV | Register to Vote Online - Electronic Voter Registration Application. The District does not have control over the Department of Motor Vehicles Registration Application process or its registration timelines. Therefore, qualified voters who intend to register through the Department of Motor Vehicles should do so as soon as possible.

Military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as qualified voters of the school district. An application for registration as a military voter can be requested by contacting the District Clerk at 631-591-4510 or clerk@southamptonschools.org.; the application for registration must be received in the office of the clerk no later than 5:00 pm on May 2, 2023. In the request for an application for registration, the military voter is permitted to designate his/her preference for receiving the application for registration by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail.

Military voters who are qualified voters of the district may submit an application for a military ballot by contacting the District Clerk at 631-591-4510 or clerk@southamptonschools.org; in order to receive a military ballot, the military ballot application must be received no later than 5:00 pm on April 20, 2023, which is the day preceding the last day for transmission of military ballots. In the request for an application for a military ballot, the military voter is permitted to designate his/her preference for receiving the application for a military ballot, and the military ballot, by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail. All qualified military voters’ ballot application and military ballot must be returned by mail or in person. Ballots for military voters shall be distributed to qualified military voters no later than April 21, 2023. Military ballots must be received (1) by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, and must show a cancellation mark of the United States postal service or a foreign country’s postal service, or must show a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States Government; or (2) not later than 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, and be signed and dated by the military voter and one witness, with a date ascertained to be not later than the day before the election.

Autorizar a la Junta Educativa del Distrito Escolar de Southampton a gastar una cantidad que no exceda los $130,000 para la compra/reemplazo de un (1) autobús para 66 pasajeros con fondos obtenidos de la reserva capital actualmente disponible en el “Fondo de reservas para reemplazo de la flota de autobuses de Southampton” establecido por los votantes el 19 de mayo de 2009. Nota: La aprobación de esta propuesta no impactará el impuesto fiscal para 2023-2024.

Farrell, c/o Farrell Building Company, Inc., ubicado en 425 County Road 39A, Southampton, New York 11968 por un plazo adicional del 15 de febrero de 2024 al 30 de junio de 2025, con un monto de arrendamiento anual en 2024 de $251,178.00 y un monto de arrendamiento de 6 meses en 2025 de $129,356.70. Nota: La extensión de arrendamiento propuesta servirá como una reducción de la extensión de arrendamiento previamente aprobada por los votantes el 18 de mayo de 2021.

  • Se puede recibir a más tardar el 15 de mayo de 2023, si la boleta de voto en ausencia debe entregarse personalmente al votante.

Las boletas de voto en ausencia deben ser recibidas por la Secretaria del Distrito a más tardar el lunes 15 de mayo de 2023, si va a ser entregada personalmente O a más tardar a las 5:00 p.m. del martes 16 de mayo de 2023, si va a ser entregada por correo. Todas las boletas deben devolverse en el sobre proporcionado con la certificación firmada por el votante calificado.

La Junta de Registro se reunirá con el propósito de registrar a los votantes calificados del Distrito, el día miércoles 3 de mayo de 2023, de 1:00 pm a 5:00 pm en la Oficina del Distrito ubicada en 425 County Road 39A, Southampton, NY. Los votantes calificados también pueden usar la solicitud electrónica de registro de votantes del Departamento de Motores y Vehículos del Estado de Nueva York para registrarse o para actualizar la información que tienen en los archivos de la Junta Electoral del Estado de Nueva York.
