Reports to: Director of PPS (in consultation with building principals)
Special Education Department Associates serve as the department’s building representation and assists win the coordination of programming for their respective building, supporting the PPS office with all communications. The DA will assist in the coordination of all department meetings, testing accommodations, CSE meetings and Annual Reviews. Department Associates also engage in discussions regarding recommendations for staff assignments and shared communication with all related service providers
DA’s assist all Case Managers and Related Service Providers in the development of meaningful and appropriate IEPs that adhere to all Part 200 regulations and support best practices with CSE participation
This position is up for renewal at the end of the school year. In order to accommodate the responsibilities below, the DA will have flexibility with duty, prep, lunch, and professional period
Responsible for:
- Assisting with the scheduling of CSE & Annual Review meetings
- Assisting with scheduling department meetings
- Coordinating Case Manager assignments
- Communicating with Administration on all matters of concern
- Providing support for the Special Education Department
- Assisting in facilitating the integration and use of instructional and assistive technology
- Running monthly department meetings when Assistant Superintendent is unable to attend
- Participating in and contributing to the curriulum and instruction developments
- Assisting with PD needs, opportunities, and scheduling
- Assisting with the Continuum of Services programmatic designs & descriptions
- Assisting in interviewing teachers, teaching assistants, and/or teacher aides, during the hiring process
- Coordinating with appropriate personnel and administrators for acquisition of resources
- Participating in staffing and course offering conversations with administration
- Disseminating information with Special Education teachers/staff as needed
- Assisting the staff with timely completionof all documentation required for CSE meetings
- Assisting case managers with ensuring all services, accommodations, and consults/teams are being provided
- Providing minutes from regularly scheduled meetings
- Taking and collecting attendance for regularly scheduled meetings
- Attending relevant building leadership meetings
- Attending relevant district meetings upon request
- Collaborating with administration to support a culturally responsive approach to teaching and learning by using the Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework
Technology/Proficient in:
- Proficient in technology programs and applications related to Special Education
General qualifications, skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Tenured Special Education Certification
- Ability to communicate effectively to achieve assigned duties
- Proficient in the use of technology in student instruction
- Knowledge of Part 200 regulations
