The Southampton School District celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a myriad of activities in each of its school buildings.

A well-attended, districtwide open-mic Latino and Hispanic Heritage Culture event was held on Oct. 8, with numerous students and staff stepping on stage to perform for a crowd. Additionally, throughout the month, students provided their peers with facts related to Hispanic Heritage Month during morning announcements.

At the high school, the Latino Cultural Club hosted food tastings, the school’s hallways were adorned with display cases of famous and innovative Latinos, and a main lobby slide presentation featured famous writers and musicians from Latin American countries.

At the intermediate school, students answered daily trivia questions related to Hispanic Heritage Month and participated in a Project Gallery Walk, where they learned more about famous Latinos and Hispanic culture. In addition, the Multicultural Club hosted a showing of the movie “Ferdinand” in Spanish with English subtitles.

At the elementary level, fourth grade students conducted research projects on famous people from Hispanic countries. During their art and music periods, students worked on songs and projects that they presented at their school’s annual Hispanic Heritage Month assembly.
