Dear Staff and Families,

We are writing to provide an update of a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, a software vendor that provides our Student Information System (SIS). After working closely with PowerSchool, we have determined our SIS was breached and that some of our Student and Teacher data was accessed and downloaded.

We have confirmed the data affected primarily includes parent and student contact information, such as names and addresses and a portion of individuals had personally identifiable information (PII), including Social Security numbers (SSNs) and medical information. We understand this situation may cause concern, and we want to assure you that our top priority remains the safety and security of our school community.

Here are the key actions we have taken:

  • Regulatory Notifications: We have notified relevant authorities, including NYSED Privacy Office of the breach.

  • Student/Educator Password Change: All student and staff passwords have been changed.

  • Direct Email Notifications: Within the coming weeks, Experian/PowerSchool will send direct email notifications to individuals and/or Parent/Guardians with instructions on how to enroll in the credit monitoring and identity protection services.  These services will be free for a period of 2 years.

  • Website and Media Release: PowerSchool has will launched a website to answer any questions and provide updates on the steps they are taking regarding the recent security incident.

Important Note: Please login to your parent portal and review your contact information to ensure accuracy.  If you choose to do so you can change your password under the profile setting.

We will continue to provide regular updates as the situation evolves. In the meantime, please visit PowerSchool for the latest information and resources.

Sincerely,
