The Southampton School District Board of Education has appointed Dr. Milagros Dueño as the district’s new director of pupil personnel services, effective Oct. 11.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Dueño to our wonderful district,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fatima Morrell. “She joins us with a wealth of experience and a passion for education. We are certain she will be a positive asset to our district and our students.”

Dr. Dueño joins Southampton as a 20-year educator within the New York City Department of Education. She started her career in a private Catholic school as an instructional coordinator for a special education early childhood pre-K program. In this role, she worked to promote a culture that encouraged partnerships between teachers and parents in the school community. Later, she worked as a bilingual school social worker in the New York City school system at both the district and elementary level, where she gained a passion for helping special education students and English language learners and their parents understand various learning styles and the services they need to be successful. This work led her to pursue a career and degree in school administration from LIU Post.

In 2013, Dr. Dueño was named assistant principal, and in 2018, she completed her doctorate in educational leadership at Sage College of Albany. In 2022, Dr. Dueño’s ongoing commitment to education led her to a position as a building principal, where she shared her love for special education, student social-emotional learning, parent engagement and teacher professional leadership.

In her new role, Dr. Dueño is looking forward to promoting a culturally responsive environment that supports students, staff and families.
